I. Background and Framing
What is Gauntlet, and why does it exist?
Answer: Gauntlet emerged from early enterprise AI work where productivity gains were real but hiring signals broke down. Resumes, interviews, and credentials became unreliable as AI made it easier to generate polished narratives without corresponding capability. Gauntlet exists to replace inferred capability with observed execution through a full time, immersive environment where real work, judgment, and output are visible over time.
Is Gauntlet a bootcamp?
Answer: No. Gauntlet does not charge tuition, does not issue credentials, and does not guarantee outcomes. It is an execution driven fellowship and recruiting model focused on making real capability observable. Gauntlet only earns revenue when a challenger is hired and retained by a partner company.
Is Gauntlet a course or an interview?
Answer: It is both. Gauntlet includes structured instruction, but its core function is evaluation through execution. Weekly challenges, live projects, and sustained output function as an extended interview with hiring partners. Interviews typically begin around weeks four or five.
II. Program Structure and Logistics
How often does Gauntlet run, and how is it structured?
Answer: Gauntlet runs multiple cohorts per year. Each Gauntlet cohort begins with a full time remote phase, followed by an in person phase in Austin. Specific dates and availability vary by cohort and are shared during admissions.
When does the next Gauntlet cohort start?
Answer: The next Gauntlet cohort begins on February 16, 2026. It starts with a full time remote phase, followed by an in person Austin phase in March. If timing does not work, additional cohorts run later in the year.
What is covered while I am in Austin?
Answer: Standard accommodation for the challenger is fully covered and billed directly to Gauntlet. Challengers are housed in studio apartments, and laundry services are provided. We pay for your compute. Meals are covered through catering and or meal stipends, with vegetarian and vegan options consistently available. There is gym access at both the office and the accommodations.
Do challengers pay out of pocket and get reimbursed later?
Answer: No. Housing and meals are paid directly by Gauntlet. Flights are booked by Gauntlet on behalf of challengers. The goal is to minimize financial distraction so challengers can focus fully on execution.
If I do not complete the program, am I responsible for fees or reimbursement?
Answer: No. There are no break up fees, clawbacks, tuition charges, or reimbursement obligations. Attrition is expected and built into the model. Gauntlet invests upfront and only earns when a challenger is successfully placed.
III. Application and Admission Requirements
How do you decide who gets in?
Answer: Admissions are based on three factors. First, CCAT performance, which measures cognitive agility. A score of 40 or higher is required for consideration. Second, prior production engineering experience, typically three or more years. Third, a demonstrated technical track record through projects and ownership.
What is the CCAT, and how do I access my score?
Answer: The CCAT is administered through Criteria Corp. Applicants are notified if they pass or fail. Exact scores can be requested directly. Most applicants receive two attempts. Desktop completion is recommended.
If I am accepted but cannot join the next cohort, can I join a later one?
Answer: Yes. Gauntlet runs multiple cohorts per year. If timing does not work for an accepted challenger, future cohorts can be discussed when they open.
How much AI experience is required before starting?
Answer: Prior AI experience is not required. Recommended preparation includes experimenting with a coding agent on a real project, understanding attention mechanisms at a high level, and reviewing system design fundamentals in a chosen stack.
IV. Program Expectations and Performance
Can I work another job while in Gauntlet?
Answer: Practically, no. Gauntlet requires full time commitment and often reaches eighty to one hundred hours per week. Some challengers attempt to balance other work early in the remote phase, but graduates strongly advise against it.
How much of the program is lectures versus building?
Answer: The majority of learning happens through building, collaboration, and shipping. Formal instruction represents a small portion of the overall experience.
Why do people get cut from the program?
Answer: Weekly deliverables are mandatory. Challengers who do not ship are removed. Most attrition happens early and is often due to misalignment with intensity rather than lack of ability.
What makes top challengers stand out?
Answer: Strong individuals meet core requirements and then extend them thoughtfully. They demonstrate product judgment, clear tradeoffs, and the ability to iterate under pressure.
V. Outcomes, Placement, and Career Path
How does placement with companies work after Gauntlet?
Answer: Gauntlet partners with companies that want to hire from the cohort. These partners engage with challengers throughout the program, and interviews typically begin mid cohort. Challengers often interview with multiple companies and choose the role that fits best.
Do I need to apply for jobs on my own?
Answer: No. Gauntlet manages partner interviews and removes early interview rounds. External applications are optional but not part of the program.
Are roles remote, or should I expect relocation?
Answer: Challengers should plan for the possibility of relocation, often to Austin or another major technology hub. Some remote roles exist, but availability varies by cohort and is competitive. Relocation assistance is commonly offered when required.
Are salaries really $200k or more?
Answer: $200k is treated as a floor rather than a standard. Compensation varies by role, experience, and company, and may include base salary, equity, and bonuses. Final negotiation is between the challenger and the hiring partner.
Do graduates ever work for Gauntlet itself?
Answer: Occasionally, depending on internal needs. This is not guaranteed and is evaluated case by case.
